About me
Kansan who emigrated from the Midwest to the UK in 2017 —
I live with my partner and our two British Shorthair cats.
My journey to UX Design hasn't been linear.
I received a BFA in Design from the University of Kansas in 2015 and worked in retail before making the Big Move over the ocean. I was living in a new country and not sure of my career path so took an entry-level job in advertising, where I stayed as I tried to figure it out. Fast forward to the end of 2020, where I watched an episode of the docuseries Abstract featuring a Product Designer and things suddenly clicked. I enrolled in a UX course shortly after and the rest is, as they say, history.
My approach is rooted in empathy and solving complex problems through research and evidence-based design to create purposeful, inclusive services that meet real user needs. In my nearly 4 years of experience in UX, I have been developing my craft and honing in on the type of designer (and person) that I want to show up as in this role. From my first experience working in agile and iteration, to my first discovery, to my first research led project, to leading a 'Getting into UX' webinar, to co-running design sessions with university students, and all the new problem-spaces and challenges that I've experienced up until now — my work has grown and journey has evolved. Long may it continue.
Outside of work I like to do and try lots of creative hobbies (knitting, pottery, sewing, glass, to name a few). I also enjoy sports, both playing and watching - big up our Lionesses(!), as well as nature walks and low-key hikes, amateur gardening, hunting for vintage, bopping to Turnstile, and trying to make my home feel like I live in my own version of the MoMA giftshop.
